5 gymnasts and their coaches selected to the Petro-Canada Fuelling Athlete and Coaching Excellence (FACE) program

Mariah Madigan and Keagan Soehn, Trampoline, Jayd Lukenchuk, Men’s Artistic, Laurie-Ève Pepin-Gagné, Women’s Artistic, Mariam Chamilova, Rhythmic, and their respective coaches, Dave Ross, Ken Soehn, Markos Baikas, Michel Charron and Svetlana Joukova were selected to receive a grant from the Petro-Canada FACE program. Every year leading up to London 2012, FACE provides 400,000$ to support the development of 50 national team athletes and assist their coaches improve their technical skills and capabilities.

Mariah Madigan of Richmond Hill, ON, 2009 Canadian Champion in Youth Trampoline, won two medals, gold and silver, at the World Age Group competitions that took place last week in Russia. Keagan Soehn of Red Deer, AB, was a three-time gold medalist at both of this year’s Canadian Championships and Canada Cup.

In Artistic Gymnastics, Jayd Lukenchuk tied for 11th in the All-Around of the 2009 Canadian Championships and Laurie-Ève Pepin-Gagné qualified for two finals at the 2009 Osijek World Cup finishing 8th on uneven bars and 4th on balance beam. Finally, Mariam Chamilova is the top ranked junior rhythmic gymnast and swept all four event finals at the 2009 Canadian Championships.
