Gymnastics Canada Announces New Partnerships and Board of Directors
Posted Tuesday, June 22, 2010
OTTAWA -- New partnerships with worldwide sports equipment and apparel manufacturers were announced and the board of directors elected at the recent Annual General Meeting of Gymnastics Canada in Ottawa.
Partnering with Gymnastics Canada as official suppliers are gymnastics equipment maker and distributor Gymnova in an alliance with Rebound Products, and uniform makers adidas/Big Kahuna. Gymnastics Canada also announced a partnership with HTG Sports Services as the exclusive hotel booking agent for all Gymnastics Canada events.
Allister Paterson of Oakville, Ont., was elected the new Chair of Gymnastics Canada, taking the reigns from George Stewart, who did not run again after 13 dedicated years as a board member including the last six years as Chair.
Also elected to the board were vice chair Richard Crépin/Quebec, secretary Jim Roycroft/Alberta, and directors André Turgeon/Ontario, Twyla Ryan/British Columbia, Beverley Dickinson/Saskatchewan, Dan Macdonald/Nova Scotia, Dale Reed/Saskatchewan, and longtime national trampoline team member Karen Cockburn of Toronto, who joins the board as athlete representative.
Lifetime members inducted at the AGM were Tamara Bompa/Ontario, and Zlatica Stauder/Manitoba, both from rhythmic gymnastics, and men’s artistic gymnastics coach Tak Kikuchi/Nova Scotia.
Gymnova has an impressive history as equipment supplier to major international events including the 2006 and 2009 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships. Other upcoming events featuring Gymnova equipment include the 2010 Commonwealth Games, 2010 World Trampoline Championships and all three disciplines at the 2012 London Summer Olympics.
“We are extremely pleased to associate Gymnastics Canada with one of the best gymnastics equipment manufacturers in the industry,” says Jean-Paul Caron, President/CEO of Gymnastics Canada. “From a business and Gymnastics perspective the Gymnova partnership, with a Rebound Products association, represents the best possible option for the future.”
As official uniform suppliers, adidas/Big Kahuna will also provide sponsorship in kind through a discount program including rebates and cash incentives. “This program is sure to be a true win-win partnership,” says Caron. “The adidas products are top quality and I’m convinced that athletes and coaches will be very impressed with their styles, fit and fabrics.”
