Canada’s Kevin Lytwyn wins two bronze medals at international gymnastics competition

YOKOHAMA, Japan- Kevin Lytwyn of Stoney Creek, Ont., won bronze medals on vault and high bar in Wednesday’s individual finals at the Japan Junior gymnastics competition.
On vault, David Belyavskiy of Russia won the gold medal with a 16.100 score. Ryuzo Sejima of Japan was second at 15.900 and Lytwyn third at 15.550.
On high bar, Shou Yokoyama of Japan took the gold with 14.950, Belyavskiy was second at 14.800 and Lytwyn third at 13.850. Jackson Payne of Edmonton was fifth at 13.750. Payne was also sixth on floor.
Lytwyn, 18, won the gold medal on high bar at the senior nationals and was fifth overall. This was his first overseas assignment wearing the Canadian colours. Payne, 18, reached two individual finals last year at the Pacific Rim championships in California and was fourth all around at nationals this year.
In women’s competition, Dominique Pegg of Sarnia, Ont., also reached two individual finals. She was fourth on floor with a 13.700 score and seventh on balance beam at 12.750. Pegg, 15, was third all around in senior competition this past spring at nationals.
In Tuesday’s all around competition, Payne and Lytwyn ranked ninth and 14th respectively for the men while Pegg was 10th for the women.
